Estate Infill Strategy + Darbishire Place

Type:  Gap site strategic study
Client / Developer: Peabody

Architect: Various + Niall McLaughlin

Peabody, in common with many local authorities and housing associations, has numerous gap sites on its estates. These can be contentious, with residents either cherishing or cursing the spaces and forming oppositional groups to prevent any development. Claire instigated a gap site review at Peabody with Niall McLaughlin and Haworth Tompkins Architects, which revealed space for at least 300 new homes. Claire then commissioned an initial ten projects, in part with the Small Projects Panel. Many of these schemes have now completed, repairing fragmented estate gaps and being shortlisted for the Stirling Prize in the case of Darbishire Place!
