The competition to redevelop the Silchester Garages site in K&C was won by Peabody’s development team in 2010, following financial and design assessments as well as resident interviews. A new shop, community space and nursery formed part of the brief: we were able to create a real new place here, combining the community and council’s aspirations for far more than just housing. We invested heavily in the central garden, retaining key existing trees. We also incorporated an artwork into the building, which not only forms a striking feature on the roof, but also (in miniature) became a gift to each new resident.
